Sustainability

We are a responsible company, always in touch with the modern world’s needs and attentive to processes that strive for the sustainable use of base materials. Our dissolving wood pulp does not use chlorine derivatives in the bleaching process. It enables the production of environmentally friendly fibers that are used in the production of technological and sustainable fabrics, adopted by clothing brands that take a responsible approach to protect the Nature.

Check out the Green Framework documentation (Click here) for details of our sustainability strategy and our green financing framework.

Our Forests

LD Celulose uses wood from planted eucalyptus forests. There will be 70 thousand hectares of eucalyptus plantation which spans several municipalities in the Triângulo Mineiro region. Forests are managed sustainably, both environmentally and socially, and aim to supply the wood demand for the factory. These forests are the heart of our company – they are what supplies the raw material for the production of dissolving wood pulp, and are managed with the best technologies.

Clean Energy

The leftover wood and eucalyptus bark are used as fuel in the biomass boiler, generating steam and energy for the production process. The energy produced is higher than the factory’s consumption, with this surplus of energy being sold. This sale of energy can reach 95 MW.

FSC

LD Celulose practices environmentally friendly, socially beneficial, and economically viable forest management. In our forest areas we plant eucalyptus, which will be used in our dissolving wood pulp plant. Our farms also have legal reserve areas and permanent preservation areas, meeting all applicable legal requirements. All operations carried out by LD Celulose respect safety standards, environmental standards, good sustainability practices, rights of traditional communities and labor rights.

The planting and management of those eucalyptus forests are carried out by trained professionals. The eucalyptus trees used in the production of LD’s plant will be harvested at the age of seven, so the planting and cultivation process is always done with long-term planning.

Social and Environmental Responsibility

LD Celulose is committed to Sustainability since its foundation. Through policies, the company reinforces its commitment to the sustainable development of its business.

In the dissolving wood pulp plant, the company seeks to act sustainably and protect the environment throughout its production chain, from our forested areas, where eucalyptus production is carried out through environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable forest management, to the dissolving wood pulp production process, which is self-sufficient in electricity and will recover used chemical base materials, among other measures.

Also LD Celulose is a Bronze sponsor of Childhood Brazil, a private, non-profit association, whose objective is the protection of children and adolescents.

Fauna Monitoring

In order to assist in the improvement and development of our activities, and identify possible impacts caused by our operation, we carry out wildlife monitoring activities in the vicinity of the factory premises. In the terrestrial fauna and winged fauna monitoring, we accompany the biodiversity of our region. Yet, in the monitoring of the aquatic fauna, our eyes are focused on animal life in the Araguari river. We also have a specific program for the prevention and reduction of fauna roadkill on the access roads to the site.

Committed to its role in the community in which it operates, LD Celulose believes that encouraging local economic and social development and maintaining an open dialogue with the community are essential conditions to be met. We therefore operate with good corporate social responsibility practices, by adopting attitudes, behaviors and actions that promote the well-being of our neighbors. To that end, LD Celulose will implement social and environmental programs and projects in its sphere of influence, in the fields of health, education and income.
